Dashanzi 798 Art District – 798 Factory –Beijing For Art Lovers

Beijing is China’s most vibrant artistic hub – the place where avant-garde artists and curators rub shoulders with
international art dealers and critics. Works by leading artists, including
Zeng Fengzhi, Yue Minjun, Cai Guo-Qiang, Zhang
Xiaogang and other Chinese artists are fetching millions of dollars, and China displaced France in 2007 as the art world’s
third biggest auction market, after the United States and Britain. The epicenter of China’s Contemporary art world is the
798 Dashanzi Art District. It’s SoHo and Greenwich Village with Chinese characteristics. Since 2001, artists have
converted this cluster of abandoned Bauhaus-style factories into the country’s top studios and galleries.  Alongside the
studios and galleries, there are also chic cafés, bars, and restaurants, and a growing number of small designer shops
and showrooms.

Travel Tips for  798 Art District

private car. Cabs are not allowed to enter the complex and you wil be required to disembark at any of the entrance
    gates.

  • Avoid the area on Mondays, when many of the galleries are closed.

among international collectors as well.

Founded by collector Fang Fang, the Star Gallery focuses on a generation of artists born in the 1970s. Collectively
called the Post-70s Generation, these young artists have been criticized for abandoning traditional Chinese symbols in
their art and for imitation Japanese animation. Many of the paintings are violent, cartoonish, highly sexual and meant to
express the alienation of young Chinese today. These self-styled Kurt Cobains of the Chinese art world have yet to find
favor with the Academy, but they are starting to attract the attention of collectors.

AT CAFE(中国)
