The last remaining watchtower in the city, the imposing Dongbianmen Watchtower hosts the Red Gate Gallery, which exhibits an
incredible selection of contemporary Chinese paintings, sculpture and photographs from Chinese artists. Red Gate Gallery is
owned by Austrian Brian Wallace, who has been in the art business in China for some two decades. The second and third floors
are devoted to the history of chongwen district with some interesting historic photos and artifacts on display.

北京二环道东南角有个东便门，连着东便门有一排建于明代嘉靖年间的城墙遗址，这城墙东起东便门角楼，西至崇文门，北至北京
站东街，全长约一千六百余米，这是北京目前仅存的两处明代城垣之一。
北京的第一个商业画廊——“红门画廊”，就矗立在这极富有历史意义的东便门角楼上。堂正的建筑外观，飞檐、屋梁、大红色的圆木
柱，浓烈的中国风格，正是画廊负责人布朗 · 华莱士当初选中它的原因.
红门画廊的主人布朗·华莱士是一位澳大利亚人，1984年来到中国，起初在中国人民大学学习汉语，1989年进入中央美术学院美术史
系修中国美术史。布朗·华莱士在业内口碑很好，十分勤奋敬业。
红门画廊创建于1991年，是北京经营最久、资格最老的专业画廊之一。红门画廊力推中国当代艺术，代理有20多位优秀的中国艺术
家，他们分别来自中央美术学院，四川美术学院，上海大学美术学院，哈尔滨师范大学艺术学院等国内著名的美术学府，他们的作
品涵盖了油画，版画，中国画，雕塑，综合材料，装置，行为艺术等诸多画种和艺术门类。他们中有的在国外知名学府进修学习
过，有的经常在国外大型画廊，展馆参加展览和学术交流，有的至今旅居国外，积极参与国际间的艺术活动。这些艺术家大都以鲜
明的个人风格，扎实的艺术功底和卓越的艺术成就在当代中国艺坛的各自领域占有重要一席。
